Dr Alex Ades is a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist, the Health Insurance Commission and the Medical Board of Australia.
Dr Ades is an extensively trained and experienced surgeon and has been involved in public and private practice as well as academic tertiary education for more than 20 years. His formal qualifications include a Master and a PhD in Medicine.
Dr Ades is a senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne - Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. He works at the endometriosis and advanced laparoscopic surgery unit at the Royal Women’s Hospital and participates in the theoretical and practical training of future specialists.
His other educational initiatives include a continuous medical education course in Women’s Health for General Practitioners and a 12-month long training position for subspecialisation in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery.
Dr Ades is a board member of the International Society for Gynaecologic Endoscopy.
Dr Ades main expertise is Gynaecologic Surgery and especially Minimally Invasive Procedures. He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, genital prolapse and urinary incontinence among others. Having evolved from traditional open surgery to laparoscopic (keyhole) and most recently robotic surgery, Dr Ades is constantly training and upskilling to ensure his patients receive the latest state of the art medical resources. The use of minimally invasive techniques has reduced the surgical trauma and markedly improved patient recovery allowing for a much prompter return to their day-to-day activities.
Dr Ades is an expert on the treatment of cervical incompetence and is one of the most experienced surgeons in Australia and internationally on Laparoscopic Transabdominal Cerclage. Dr Ades sees his private patients at Frances Perry House, and Epworth Richmond hospitals.
